What is the Community Educator Learning Hub?
The Community Educator Learning Hub is an online learning platform created by the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, with 130+ short, interactive nanocourses designed specifically to help community educators more effectively engage learners. By breaking down the competencies of teaching and learning into easy-to-understand tips and strategies, this powerful resource can complement your organization’s training and support for community educators such as tutors, mentors, volunteers, docents, teaching artists, parents, classified staff, and more.
The Community-Based Organization Learning Network is an opportunity for organizations in Arizona to explore the Community Educator Learning Hub and its potential. This network will allow you to engage with the ASU Community Educator team on how to curate, sequence and integrate nanocourses into your training/learning design, and share best practices, tips, and ideas with a peer community.
Organizations participating in the network, either the Summer or Back-to-School round, will:
- Utilize the Community Educator Learning Hub to complement training and support for their community educators.

FAQ
What is the cost of the Community Educator Learning Hub?
In partnership with the Arizona Department of Education, the Community Educator Learning Hub is currently free for all Arizonans through June 2025. This is a value add for organizations of $120 per user.
Who are community educators?
Community educators are youth-serving professionals and volunteers who provide capacity and insight in service of deepening and personalizing student learning. They enrich learning environments by forging authentic relationships, sharing expertise and expanding networks.
What are nanocourses? Why are they effective?
The Community Educator Learning Hub is made up of over 130 nanocourses. Nanocourses are bite-sized, just-in-time, asynchronous modules with tips and strategies that community educators can immediately put into practice with students to positively impact their learning. Based on the principles of microlearning, the brevity of the nanocourses reduces cognitive overload, decreases risk of interruption, and encourages revisiting and reviewing content, which helps increase retention. Microlearning has been shown to increase interest, skill and knowledge retention, engagement, and performance.
Additionally, the Community Educator Learning Hub was designed with intentional consideration of the diversity of community educator backgrounds and the importance of making the most of community educators’ time so that they can make their time with learners the most meaningful. The unique design incorporates expertly curated content with clear language that avoids educational jargon and various types of embedded media such as videos, animations, and interactive opportunities for practice and reflection that make learning engaging and memorable.
I already do training with my community educators, how can this help my organization?
The asynchronous bite-sized training offered in the Hub is easy to integrate into your organization’s training practices. Use the Community Educator Learning Hub to boost your organization’s unique professional learning, adding capacity to your team and allowing you to utilize time with your community educators for contextualized training.
Is there a minimum number of community educators we need to work with to participate in the network?
No, we know the number of community educators varies by type of organization and program, and all types are welcome to participate.
