Chief Executive Officer | Central Arts Alliance

Position Summary

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Central Arts Alliance assists the Board of Directors in the creation of the Strategic Operating Plan, and is responsible for its implementation, in line with the mission, vision, and core values of the organization. The CEO also manages the day to day operations of Central Arts Alliance and all its branches, including Phoenix Center for the Arts, Thunderbird Arts Center, and the Arizona Art Mobile, as well as any and all future locations managed by Central Arts Alliance.

The CEO also leads the creation of, and adherence to, the annual operating budget in excess of $1.5 million, under guidance of the Board of Directors, with input from Department Managers.

The CEO serves as the primary spokesperson for the organization, in presenting to or conversing with clients, contractors, partners, stakeholders, staff, and the community. This extends in large part to the areas of corporate/donor advancement and fundraising.

Candidates with strong connections to the community that CAA serves will be given preferential consideration. Strong presentation skills to serve as event chair, spokesperson, and community advocate are required.

Job Responsibilities

Possesses staff authority and makes final decisions in all operational matters.
Hires, dismisses staff when needed, and trains all staff members when a senior member of personnel is not available/able to perform this function.
Creates organizational structure and assigns staff/department duties as needed
Implements policies and procedures as established by the Board of Directors
With support from the Board of Directors and Development Department, directs all fundraising activity, focusing specifically on sponsorship and large gifts
Identifies growth opportunities in line with vision, mission, and core values
Prepares annual budget for presentation to, and adoption by, the Board of Directors
Maintains operational compliance with all appropriate federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Serves as event chair for any and all major fundraising events, including, but not limited to the Phoenix Festival of the Arts and other organized events.
Writes and submits grant applications for government, foundation, and corporate grants.
Helps identify, implement, and track key performance indicators for all departments
Helps maintain and grow a dynamic portfolio of donor prospects, securing major, principal, and planned gifts through effective donor identification, qualification, cultivation, and solicitation.
Assists in the cultivation of major gifts and corporate gifts through Board Development Committee and community engagement.
Stewards relationships with local leaders, businesses, community members, and other stakeholders, and builds relationships between these groups & individuals and CAA, serving as an exemplary advocate in the community. Serves on several community boards as identified by the Board of Directors.
Tracks organizational activities and goals, and reports progress on a regular basis to the Board of Directors.
Shall assume other duties as duly assigned by the Board of Directors.

Requirements and Qualifications

The CEO must possess a comprehensive understanding of nonprofit business practices, community relationships, fundraising, and organizational efficiency. The CEO must demonstrate excellent written and verbal skills. The CEO must also be willing and able to liaise with the community in local meetings and be comfortable speaking publicly about high level topics, such as business strategy, economic development, job growth, and community impact.

Minimum 5 years of administrative experience, ideally within the arts and with increasing levels of responsibility
Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience
Ability to work with diverse constituencies with a record of leadership and accomplishment, and ability to capitalize on and move forward with CAA’s goals related to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
Experience directing or supporting major capital campaigns
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Attentive and active listening skills
Business acumen and knowledge of non-profit management practices
Must live in the Metro Phoenix area. This is an in-person role and there is no hybrid or remote work.

Seniority Level: Executive
Salary Range: $70,000-$85,000 (DOE)
