Call for Art | City of Mesa Featured Artist Exhibition

DESCRIPTION
The City of Mesa in partnership with Tuning Fork is thrilled to offer a unique opportunity for one Mesa-based artist, artist team, or art-centered organization to be featured in exhibition at the newly constructed City of Mesa City Hall Building. This exhibition will run for one year, from September 2024 to September 2025, and aims to celebrate the vibrant artistic community of Mesa. We invite applicants who are based in or are from Mesa to submit their work for consideration. Any theme or style is welcome, as our goal is to highlight the diverse creative talents within our community. The exhibition will showcase between 5-10 artworks, depending on the size and layout of the display space; the final location of the artwork is yet to be determined. The selected artist or artist group will receive an honorarium of $1,000 for their participation.

ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible, artists must be based in, from, or have a strong connection to Mesa, Arizona. Artworks must be 2-dimensional or low relief, and must be ready to hang with D-rings. Painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, collage, digital art, and low-relief mixed media and textile artwork will be accepted. Artwork must be suitable for display in a government building that hosts a wide range of audiences. Please limit artwork submissions to 60 inches on the longest side. All submissions should be original and completed works, and should include some recent work ideally created within the past 5 years.

SUBMISSION CRITERIA – All entries must include:
1. Current contact information, including email and phone number.
2. An introduction not to exceed 500 words explaining your connection to Mesa and your reason for applying to this opportunity.
2. Digital Images: 5-10 images can be submitted of proposed artworks to be displayed. All images should be 1500 – 3000 pixels in the longest direction. Files should be named in the following format: LastNameFirstInitial_01.jpg, example: SmithJ_01.jpg
3. An image list corresponding with your submitted images is required. Image list should include artwork title, year completed, size, and materials used. File named: LastNameFirstInitial_imagelist.jpg.
4. A headshot of the artist(s) applying. File named: LastNameFirstInitial_headshot.jpg
5. A current resume or curriculum vitae (CV) including artist(s) accomplishments. If a resume is not available or does not accurately represent your qualifications, please submit a list of your artistic accomplishments. Please note, no previous exhibition experience is required to participate in this opportunity. File named: LastNameFirstInitial_resume.jpg.

All submissions are due by 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2024, and can be submitted digitally via the webform found here:

Incomplete submissions will not be accepted.

SELECTION PROCESS
Submissions will be reviewed and selected by members of the City of Mesa’s Museum and Cultural Arts Board. The committee will select artworks most suitable for the space and its audience.

EXHIBITION TIMELINE
Entries due: 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2024
Notification to artists: Early September
Work drop-off and installation: September 23
Opening reception: Mid November to correspond with building’s grand opening
Show closes: September 2025
Work pick-up: Late September 2025
