Roche Tissue Diagnostics is pleased to work with the Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance to present an original mission-focused gallery exhibition, “Inside Out, Outside In.” We are seeking artists of all mediums that are exploring art focused on the human body’s architecture. This focus on the anatomy and physiology of the body is indispensable for a company like Roche, who is continually exploring their fundamental importance in the diagnosis, treatment, and the development of innovative healthcare solutions.

Artists working in all mediums, including poetry, video and performance/movement are welcome to submit work with one common goal: Each work, whether large or tiny, two or three dimensional, sparse or intricate, should focus on a single component (organ or system) of the human anatomy/architecture. Just one. Please note that imagery focused on the entire body will not be considered.

We welcome all single, creative interpretations (brain, thyroid, thymus gland, heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, pancreas, intestines, ovaries, gallbladder, stomach, urinary system, reproductive system, etc.) of the human body, from scientifically correct, whimsical, metaphorical, or even comic. Inspiration can be sought from the examples below.

This show will pay homage to these individual organs and systems, all integral to human health. It will also put emphasis on the importance of the body to heal, transform, and recover from cancer and other diseases. Additionally, educational resources linked to patient health will be included as part of this exhibition.

The exhibition is open to both 2D and 3D artworks, including, but not limited to, fiber arts, mixed media, collage, paper mache, textiles, painting, watercolor, photography, metal, poetry, movement, video and more. Artists are invited to submit up to 5 artworks in various media. Due to space limitations, there will be a limit to how many free-standing artworks will be accepted (3D). Two-dimensional pieces must hang on the gallery hanging system with an affixed gallery wire. The submitted artworks can be considered as new works or existing works that complement the exhibition theme. For those submitting “live” movement/ideas, a video of the piece should be submitted with your application. Depending on the number of these types of work, there may be an opportunity to perform it live at the opening on October 23.

The show will be hung based on groupings of different anatomical/physiological elements and overall first, second and third prize gifts of $300, $200 and $100 will be awarded.
